Richard Gorman
Kawaii A (2022)

Richard’s acknowledged genius with colour and form enable him to create prints in which static shapes start to shiver with energy, and different shades speak to one another, holding conversations across the handmade paper he favours for his work. His explorations of hue and form are experiments in the power of perception, in which three dimensions appear, through his skilful balancing of tone and shade. Richard’s work is playful too, and there is a dancing joy at play within the bold simplicity of his pared-back forms.
“The processes, opportunities and limitations of print are different than those of painting. This creates a ping-pong possibility, as images reflect and enrich each other.” — Richard Gorman
A member of Aosdána, Richard began collaborating with Stoney Road Press in 2003. He has also collaborated with the fashion house, Hérmes to produce his designs on their signature silk scarves. A book of his work has been published by the Joseph & Anni Albers Foundation.
